Walking along a seashore or riverbank, one can find fragments of pottery that were once part of a vase or a tile. These fragments have washed ashore, and sometimes their original patterns still remain on the surface. “Washed Pattern” is a project by guse ars that recomposes patterns extracted from fragments of old pottery to create new ones. By reincorporating these new patterns into our daily lives in the form of tiles, we also look to the future, when the patterns once again break into pieces and are washed ashore. This cycle can continue endlessly, as life is passed on from generation to generation. What is inscribed on this tile is an immense sequence of patterns that unfolds over time and originates from a single fragment.
